Descripción: The objective of this presentation is to review some factors associated with the interval from parturition to first estrus in beef cattle, with emphasis on nutrition, loctation and suckling intensity. Optimum reproductive performance in beef herds ia a key factor in assuring that beef remains a competitive source of protein for humans. The main goal of the cattleman is to obtain a calf a year from each cow. To achieve this goal, cows must be rebred within 82 days after parturition, assuming a 283-day gestation period. However, there is substantial evidence that this does not occur even in a good portion of well-managed herds.
