Description: Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) O. Kuntze (Araucaria) and Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. (yerba mate) are forest species of great ecological importance, native to South America, whose exploitation and trade subsidized the economic and social development of the Center-South region of Brazil. Information on the location and geographical scope of natural populations can contribute significantly to rescuing genes still unknown to the scientific community.
