Description: This is the third annual report of the project summarizing the results of 1997. The results of the biomass determination and nutrient uptake are included which were conducted during 1996/97. First results from stand hydrology (stemflow, throughfall) and soil nitrogen dynamics are incorporated. The report is devided into two parts. In the main part, the project team is presented and is activities throughout the year 1997 are briefly summarized. The annexes give detailed information on selected research activities of the project. The research programme could be conducted according to the schedule outlined in previous report. This detailed and integrated analyses of the soil nutrient and water dynamics is yet to be done. This will involve mathematical procedures which can only be employed after thorough data analyses. First organisational and scientific steps were made towards implementing the new project phase starting in 1998.
