Description: ABSTRACT: The crop production in the cerrado soils may be improved when high amounts of lime and phosphate fertilizers are used. An economical management alternative of these inputs involves biological processes as the arbuscular mycorrhiza. The presence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the soil and the consequent root colonization cause an alteration in the plant response to the utilized inputs by increasing their effects on plant growth. Then, to make profit of the beneficial effects of arbuscular mycorrhiza, the increase and diversification of arbuscular micorrhizal fungi in the soil is recommended, mainly in those soils where its population is generally low, as in the cerrado soils.
